Thanks too for your comments. I have the first two videos Dr Penton and Grace's. A gift for doing the video. I spoke for two hours straight I think - took a break and went on for another hour. And what really amazed me is that while I had an outline and see that I sometimes referred to it, for the most part it was off the top of my head. He just asked me what I wanted to talk about and I talked and talked. Man can I talk. Sometimes I think I talk too much but that was a good experience.

MANDATORY REPORTERS OF CHILD ABUSE

according to the watchtower society's legal department, in some states the elders are "not required to report" allegations of child abuse among the members.

but what exactly are they not required to report?

the sinner's confession or the victim's allegation?

Here is another point someone asked me in email. This is my response:

I am not an American so am not familiar with the American laws. However most of the literature on sexual abuse is from the US so I think I have a pretty good idea.

When I read J.R. Brown's statement in his letter to the BBC program on child sexual abuse among Jehovah's Witnesses,

"a 16-year old boy had sex with a consenting 15-year old girl" would have to be reported as CHILD ABUSE"

it felt false.

What I understand is that if a person who is considered an adult has "consenting" sex with someone considered a minor THEN it would be abuse and require reporting. If there are states where the law of majority is 16 then and only then would this be a crime. In reality few places would actually consider this 16/15 yr olds to be "abuse" unless there was coercion involved.

Abuse laws are there primarily to deal with sexual matters where there is coercion of some type and most especially where there is an issue of power imbalance and authority such as a much older person and a child or a father figure/teacher/doctor/religious leader etc. and a child.

this is how jehovahs witness keep the congregations clean.

when anyone does something wrong, adultery, childabuse etc only the elders dealing with the case are supposed to know about it , appart from those directlty involved.

this means that appart from rumors and gosip, which jehovahs witnesses are instructed to ignore (i suspect this is the reason why)no one knows about it.this creates the impression among the general publishers that these things rarely happen.

When reading this statement (grammatically) it sounds like the JWs ARE a clean people which we know they aren't.

I would hate to see your statement plastered all over the net and taken out of context that apostates agree

To be grammatically correct (and so those JWs don't think we think they are clean....

So witnesses think they are a clean people because they are never told what is really happening

i would be interested if others feel a connection w the area where they were born or grew up.

Freetobeme What an excellent description of going "home" is like. I so clearly recall seeing one place that I thought was so big and scary. When I saw it as an adult I was able to see it in totoally different eyes and the fear was gone. I haven't gone into any of the places but what generous people that they allowed you to enter their homes.

The one place I would have asked to go into had been torn down. That was very disappointing but life goes on.

What an experience too that people were able to say they were sorry. I haven't heard that yet but can only imagine what a healing experience that would be.

SS We each find recovery in many different ways. Many abuse survivors find that physically going back is a very empowering tool to recovery.

And as Viv stated if the memories were good, one can find connection, peace and grounding.

I Have returned many times to the places where I grew up - there are a lot of them because we moved - a lot. I lived in 18 places before I was 18. I am now 50 and have lived in 30 places so I have visited a few places.

Mostly it started as part of my abuse recovery - as an attempt to connect memories to places.. That generalized to every place I had lived. So much has happened and because there have been so many places, a visit back to some of them helps to clarify events.

No place is identified as "home" except where I am for the moment. And it has always been that way. Home is where ever I am.

I envy many of you who lived a long time in one place. Although... I am an expert packer. One time when I was a JW we bought a house on Tues. Moved on Sat and by the following Wed every thing was unpacked and the house totally fixed with curtains and pictures on the walls. People who came to "help" on the Wed. were shocked.

I look like such a baby here but I am about 27-28 and we are off to a meeting. Those are my two girls and my grand-daughter is now older than either of them. My mother said the first would never get to school before the end came. Oh well - not waiting any more

And here is how I got to pass my time at the DC so I wouldn't fall asleep

WAKE UP MAN!!

the session is over! Time to stop dreaming about what might have been and go home.

I was there yestarday after a 17 year break and I heard absolutely nothing new or exciting. Sort of time warp in the Borg. hmm that almost seesm like the way it should be - time warped Borg.

And that new book. Who are you kidding - what a piece of kindergarten crap. Yup they said it was simpler (like could ANY borg book get any simpler) and more pictures for those who can't read at the kindergarten level

It boggles the mind that you could feel satisfied on this starvation diet
